The 2027 Ford Explorer ST Sinister package turns a popular owner-modified look into a factory option. Black wheels, dark badges and amber lighting give the three-row performance SUV a distinct appearance without changing its basic powertrain.

An appearance package inspired by owners

The Explorer ST community has embraced dark trim, black wheels and other aftermarket changes. Ford’s Sinister package brings several of those styling cues together as a factory option for the 2027 ST.
The idea has a parallel in Ford’s F-150 Lobo: deliver a finished street-oriented appearance instead of asking the buyer to assemble it from separate parts. In this case, the starting point is already the performance-focused Explorer ST.
For a shopper who likes that look, the appeal is straightforward. You can order the coordinated appearance with the SUV and compare its price on the same order sheet as the rest of the equipment.
Black wheels and amber lighting define the look

The Sinister package combines 21-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels, dark-accented ST badges and distinctive amber lighting. All-season tires are part of the setup described in the original announcement.
The blacked-out trim creates the visual effect, while the amber lights stand out in Ford’s night photography. Buyers should review the package details and paint choices on the current build sheet to see exactly what is included.
This is an appearance option, so its value comes down to how much you like the combination and whether you would otherwise spend money on similar changes after buying the vehicle.
The ST keeps its twin-turbo V6

The Explorer ST uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6, a ten-speed automatic transmission and sport-tuned suspension. Sinister does not introduce a separate engine or an additional horsepower upgrade.
The original reveal cited 385 horsepower. Ford’s current 2027 Explorer ST specifications list 385 or 400 horsepower depending on the state where the vehicle is purchased. Confirm the rating for the specific vehicle you are ordering.
The three-row ST seats six with standard second-row captain’s chairs, or seven with the available bench. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with Intelligent 4WD available. That keeps the focus on a family-sized SUV with an established performance package underneath the new appearance.
The Explorer ST Experience is part of the ownership pitch

Alongside the Sinister reveal, Ford announced the return of the Explorer ST Experience. Buyers of new 2026 and 2027 Explorer ST models receive an invitation to a one-day professional driving school; Ford announced a fall 2026 launch for the traveling program.
The invitation is tied to qualifying ST ownership, rather than requiring the Sinister appearance package. Owners should check the current Ford Racing experiences information for registration, locations and program terms.
That adds a practical opportunity to learn the SUV in a controlled setting. The Sinister decision itself remains a styling choice: it packages a look that owners have already shown they want, on top of the ST’s existing powertrain and chassis.
