The Chevrolet Trax is a subcompact SUV redesigned for the 2024 model year. Known for its affordable price and daily driving versatility, the Trax is a popular entry-level vehicle. That popularity doesn’t mean it is free of known problems.

Information in this article was compiled from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), press releases from General Motors, ownership and technician forums (including TraxForum, ChevroletForum), and social media groups focused on the Trax.

Chevrolet Trax Engine & Transmission Issues

The 2024–2026 Trax uses a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine, a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The 2026 Chevy Trax continues that configuration. Repair guidance varies by model year and symptoms.

Transmission Shudder: GM bulletin 24-NA-242 addresses humming, growling or shudder at roughly 28–53 mph in certain 2024 Trax models. It directs technicians to check a related bulletin and radio software first, then replace the torque converter if the condition remains. This is service guidance, not a safety recall.

The recall below applies to certain 2024 Trax vehicles. It is not a complete, permanent list of campaigns. Check your VIN for current recall status.

Instrument Panel Going Blank (23V-744): Software in the Virtual Cockpit Unit can cause the instrument display to go blank, hiding speed and warning information. The remedy is a free software update through a dealer or an over-the-air update.

Trax Technical Service Bulletins

A technical service bulletin (TSB) provides diagnostic or repair guidance to technicians. It is not a recall, does not mean every vehicle has the problem and does not automatically guarantee a free repair. Warranty coverage and vehicle eligibility must be checked.

Remote-Start Cabin Cooling: Bulletin 23-NA-198 covers certain 2024–2025 Trax models with manual climate controls. It calls for a body control module update when the air conditioning does not cool the cabin during remote start.

Owner-Reported Chevy Trax Issues

Owners also discuss the following symptoms in the forums linked above. These anecdotal reports do not establish how frequently a problem occurs or prove that every model year is affected. Similar symptoms can have different causes.

Stalling and Hesitation: Some drivers report hesitation, rough idle or stalling. Do not assume this is normal break-in behavior. Have a qualified technician diagnose recurring symptoms, especially any loss of power in traffic.

Screen Glitches: Some owners report screens rebooting, going blank or failing to start. For a 2024 model, check whether the instrument-panel recall applies before treating a blank gauge display as an infotainment annoyance.

Connectivity Drops: Owners describe Apple CarPlay or Bluetooth disconnecting or failing to pair. Record the phone model and software version when asking a dealer to diagnose the problem.

Battery Drain: Some owners have experienced phantom battery drains, leaving them unable to start their vehicles.

The easiest way to check for current recalls that may affect your Chevy Trax is to visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Recalls page and enter your license plate or 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) to run a search. You can also do this at the GM Owner Center.
