General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 2024 – 2025 model year Buick Envista, 2024 – 2026 model year Buick Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazer, and 2025 model year Chevrolet Trax vehicles. The rearview camera screen in these vehicles may display a distorted or blank image.
Description of the safety risk, including crash, fire, death, injury:
If the rearview camera is not functioning properly, rear visibility is reduced, increasing the risk of a crash while backing up.
Description of the cause:
An issue with the bonding process used to assemble the camera housing could weaken the adhesive bond on some assemblies.

Chronology
On May 20, 2025, GM opened an investigation into complaints involving inoperative rearview cameras.
On September 4, 2025, GM decided to close its investigation as no defect trend was identified, while continuing to monitor field data at six-month intervals.
On March 25, 2026, GM opened a new product investigation based on a rise in claim rates identified during continued monitoring. GM’s investigation determined that a plasma-cleaning treatment used to prepare the camera housing assembly could weaken the adhesive bond in some assemblies.
GM’s analysis of field data identified an elevated rate of complaints among vehicles built between April and December 2024. The end of this suspect window coincides with a modification the supplier made to the plasma-cleaning fixture. GM identified 33,365 field complaints received between July 3, 2024 and May 30, 2026 that were potentially related to this condition and associated with the suspect production window.
GM is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this condition. On August 13, 2026, GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided to conduct a safety recall.

Description of recall schedule:
Dealers were notified on August 20, 2026. The first phase of owner remedy letters was scheduled to begin mailing September 16, 2026. Interim notices for the remaining owners were scheduled to begin mailing September 17, 2026. GM will provide an estimated end date for the final phase of owner remedy notification when timing is available.
