A recall affecting 14 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 and EV9 electric vehicles.
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ioniq 5 vehicles. Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2022-2024 EV6 and 2024 EV9 vehicles. The high voltage battery cells in both cases may contain misaligned electrodes, which can lead to a fire while parked or driving.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and limit their charge to a maximum of 80% until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery system assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in August 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai’s customer service at 855-371-9460 and Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 305. Kia’s number for this recall is SC375.

Due to a quality deviation by the supplier, certain battery cells within the High Voltage Battery System Assembly manufactured in limited production periods may have been produced with a misaligned electrode. A misaligned electrode may, over time, result in an internal short circuit in certain situations, thereby increasing the risk of fire.
