The 2027 Kia Sportage gets a targeted update that makes the gas-powered X-Line easier to shop: two formerly optional conveniences are now included. The entry-level price remains below $30,000 before destination, although the delivered starting price crosses that mark.
Here are the changes, basic specifications and prices to know before choosing a trim.
What changes for the 2027 Sportage X-Line?
The gas-powered X-Line now includes a panoramic sunroof and Kia’s Smart Power Liftgate as standard equipment. Those features previously came in the 2026 X-Line Premium Package. Road Rider Brown joins the X-Line color choices, with a two-tone roof available.
According to Kia’s model-year announcement, most of the remaining gas lineup carries over. That makes this an equipment update, so shoppers comparing a discounted 2026 with a 2027 should compare the actual window stickers. A lower price on last year’s vehicle means less if it leaves out features you would otherwise pay to add.
Powertrain: a 2.5-liter engine and an eight-speed automatic
The gas Sportage uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It runs on regular 87-octane gasoline. Front-wheel drive is offered on several trims; the X-Line comes with all-wheel drive.
Kia’s 2027 specification table lists estimated fuel economy of 25 city, 33 highway and 28 combined mpg for the front-drive LX and EX. Their AWD counterparts are listed at 24/30/26 mpg. These figures describe the gas model; the separately offered hybrid and plug-in hybrid have different powertrains and ratings.
Size and cargo space: useful room in a compact SUV
The Sportage measures 184.4 inches long and 73.4 inches wide, with a 108.5-inch wheelbase. Rear legroom is 41.3 inches. Ground clearance is 7.1 inches with front-wheel drive and 8.3 inches with all-wheel drive.
Cargo-floor position affects the published capacity. With the floor in its lower position, Kia lists 39.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 74.1 with that row folded. The higher position reduces those figures to 36.6 and 69.3 cubic feet. When checking whether a stroller or cooler fits, pay attention to the floor setting rather than relying on the biggest number alone.
Prices: add destination before comparing trims
The gas LX starts at $28,990 before Kia’s $1,495 destination charge, making the starting delivered MSRP $30,485 before taxes, options and other fees. The EX starts at $30,790 with front-wheel drive or $32,590 with AWD. The updated X-Line AWD starts at $34,790, or $36,285 including destination.
That places the X-Line $2,200 above an EX AWD before options. Whether its equipment is worth that difference depends on what you want from the vehicle; the badge alone does not change the gas engine’s output.
