The 2027 Toyota Crown gets a meaningful hybrid update beneath its familiar elevated-sedan shape. Buyers also face a wider equipment spread between trims, so choosing the right Crown involves more than picking a color.

Here are the changes, core specifications and prices to know before shopping. This is a guide to Toyota’s announced updates, rather than a road-test verdict.

The 2027 changes reach beyond the paint

The XLE, Limited and Nightshade switch to Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system and gain paddle shifters. Toyota also revises the rear bumper, adds Inked black paint and expands Saddle Tan interior availability. Platinum gets red brake calipers and a revised two-tone treatment with a body-color trunk.

For shoppers, the useful distinction is between a styling update and a mechanical one. The hybrid-system change deserves a test drive; a new paint choice alone is a matter of preference.

Toyota’s 2027 specifications list 236 combined horsepower for the 2.5-liter hybrid in XLE and Limited. Platinum pairs a turbocharged 2.4-liter hybrid with a six-speed automatic and produces 340 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard. The regular hybrid uses an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.

The sedan measures 196.1 inches long, 72.4 inches wide and 60.6 inches tall, with a 112.2-inch wheelbase and 5.8 inches of ground clearance. Toyota lists 40 mpg combined for XLE and Limited versus 30 mpg for Platinum. That makes Platinum a performance decision rather than the obvious choice for someone focused on fuel use.

Limited gains useful parking and traffic technology

Limited now includes a panoramic camera system, Traffic Jam Assist capability and Digital Key capability. Connected features may require an active trial or subscription. A camera that helps position a large sedan in a tight parking space is a more practical upgrade than a badge or trim accent.

The Crown model page also highlights wireless Apple CarPlay and the Nightshade’s 21-inch black wheels. Compare the actual equipment on a dealer’s window sticker, especially if a discounted previous-model-year car is also on your list.

Toyota lists base prices of $41,640 for XLE, $48,965 for Nightshade, $49,720 for Limited and $55,190 for Platinum. Add the $1,295 delivery charge: those become $42,935, $50,260, $51,015 and $56,485 before options, taxes and registration.

Our shopping takeaway: start with the powertrain you want, then compare equipment. Limited’s extra technology may be useful, but its price places it close enough to Platinum to make the efficiency-versus-performance decision worth considering. These figures come from Toyota’s model-year announcement; dealer selling prices can differ.
