A recall of 148,663 Ford Mustang vehicles for wiring harness ground connections that may fail.
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2024-2026 Mustang vehicles. The engine compartment wiring harness ground connections may fracture and result in a loss of drive power, or a loss of function in the windshield washing system, headlights, air conditioning, or engine cooling fan. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment,” and 104, “Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems.”

Descriptive Information
Ford’s team reviewed vehicle assembly plant production records to determine the population of affected vehicles. Heat shrink that can result in broken engine compartment wiring harness ground eyelets was added to the harness beginning with 2024 model year production with corrective actions to address the condition introduced on June 9, 2026.
These vehicles are not produced in VIN order. Information as to the applicability of this action to specific vehicles can best be obtained by either calling Ford’s toll-free line (1-866-436-7332) or by contacting a local Ford or Lincoln dealer who can obtain specific information regarding the vehicles from the Ford On-line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) database.
Description of defect or noncompliance:
In affected vehicles, the engine compartment wiring harness ground eyelet terminals may experience fatigue fracture. Depending on which ground eyelet fractures, this condition may result in a loss of motive power, loss of right and/or left headlamps, loss of windshield washer fluid pump function, loss of air conditioning, and/or an inoperable engine cooling fan.
Description of the safety risk, including crash, fire, death, injury:
A loss of motive power while driving increases the risk of crash. An inoperable headlamp may reduce the driver’s visibility and/or make the vehicle less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. An inoperable windshield washing system increases the risk of a crash.
Description of the cause:
Depending on production variability, in some instances wiring harness heat-shrink material adhesive intrusion into the ground eyelet bolt-clearance envelope resulted in ground eyelet bending that reduced eyelet fatigue life under vehicle vibration.
Identification of any warning that can occur:
Depending on which ground eyelet is affected, the driver may experience an illuminated Check Engine Light (MIL), instrument cluster warning messages, or an audible chime.
Chronology
On June 4, 2026, Electrical Distribution System (EDS) team members notified Ford’s Automotive Safety Office (ASO) of a durability test failure of two broken eyelets on a 2027 Model Year Mustang durability test vehicle that led to a loss of motive power during testing. The Engineering team had conducted analysis and evaluations and identified that the potential concern existed on current production vehicles as well. A Stop Ship was issued for 2026 Model Year Mustang vehicles on the same day.
On June 9, 2026, the issue was brought to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) for review.
Between June and July 2026, the investigation team analyzed potential vehicle failure modes and progression-to-failure timing.
As of August 4, 2026, Ford’s review of global field data identified eight (8) warranty claims (four of which occurred at less than three months in service) and zero (0) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) related to this condition received between October 18, 2024, and August 4, 2026.
On August 18, 2026, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field action.
Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.
Remedy

Remedy Type: Replace
Description of remedy program:
Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the four engine compartment wiring harness ground terminals replaced with revised standoff eyelet pigtails. There will be no charge for this service.
How remedy component differs from recalled component:
The revised service standoff eyelet pigtails featuring a redesigned stepped-neck terminal geometry. This modified geometry eliminates clamp-up interference and out-of-plane bending stress under vehicle vibration.
Description of recall schedule:
Notification to dealers is expected to occur on August 28, 2026. Mailing of interim owner notification letters is expected to begin August 31, 2026, and is expected to be completed by September 4, 2026. Mailing of remedy owner notification letters is expected to be completed in Q1, 2027. The date VINs are planned to be searchable is August 28, 2026.
