The Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible has been introduced with 795 horsepower and when it hits dealerships in the spring of 2027, it will be the most powerful Mustang convertible ever. Although this new Dark Horse SC Convertible is not designed to be a track monster like its hard-topped sibling, it offers similar stunning performance with open-air freedom.
“We are giving a new generation of drivers a premium, high-performance street machine that is just as fun to be seen in as it is to drive,” said Ryan Shaughnessy, Ford Mustang brand marketing manager.
The Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible will officially go on sale in the fall of 2026, with the first units arriving in the spring of 2027.
Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible Powerplant

Like the coupe, the new Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter “Predator” V8 that delivers 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque, with the power being sent towards the rear wheels by means of a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. This drivetrain configuration makes the new Dark Horse SC Convertible is the most powerful drop-top Mustang ever, while also being one of the most powerful American convertibles ever offered.
Ford has not announced performance numbers for the Dark Horse SC Convertible, but we know that the coupe has a 0-60 time in the low-three-second range. We do not have weight numbers for the convertible, but they are generally slightly heavier than a closely-related coupe. If that is the case, the new Dark Horse SC Convertible should still be able to get from a stop to 60 in the mid-three-second range, at worst.
Other High Performance Features

In addition to the supercharged 5.2-liter V8, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible shares some other key high performance components with the hard top version. First, the MagneRide suspension system from the coupe has been retuned for the weight and aerodynamic properties of the convertible. Next, the massive Brembo brakes from the coupe are tucked behind the same wheels, with 6-piston monoblock calipers over 15.3-inch rotors up front and 4-piston calipers over 14-inch rotors out back. Speaking of wheels, the Dark Horse aluminum wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero R tires measuring 305/30/20 up front and 315/30/20 out back – offering plenty of grip for hard acceleration, braking and cornering.
“If the coupe is the race-bred side of our DNA, this convertible is the pure street cred part of the formula,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Racing. “It’s just pure fun, fast, freedom.”
Of course, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible also shares the unique exterior design cues of the Dark Horse SC package, with an aggressive front fascia, a large rear wing, a rear diffuser and rectangular quad exhaust tips.
The Ultimate Top-Down Grand Touring Machine

While this monstrous pony car comes with many of the same features as the Mustang Dark Horse SC coupe, it is not intended to be a track car like the hardtop. Instead, this Dark Horse SC is designed to be an incredible grand touring car, combining stunning performance with comfort needed for a cross-country, open-air cruise.
“Both the Dark Horse SC coupe and convertible have been developed by our Ford Racing engineers,” said Arie Groeneveld, Mustang Dark Horse SC chief engineer. “But instead of prioritizing the convertible for setting lap times, we’ve engineered it to be the ultimate top-down grand touring machine.”
A New Color for the Drop-Top Dark Horse SC

In addition to introducing the most powerful Mustang convertible ever, Ford is also introducing a new exterior color for the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible. It is called Precision Purple, and it joins the color palate alongside a unique brake caliper color option and the buyer’s choice of Black Onyx or Space Gray for the premium interior layout.
We will share the full details on the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible when the become available, including pricing and options, but for now, those who want a drop-top pony car with 795 horsepower – you should reach out to your local dealership and inquire now about getting one of these monsters when they go on sale later this year.
