A recall of 48,777 Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet vehicles for seat belts that may twist and fail to retract.
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Dodge Hornet and 2023-2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale vehicles. The rear outboard seat belts may become twisted and fail to retract properly.

Descriptive Information
Some 2023-2025 MY Dodge Hornet vehicles may have been built with rear outboard seat belts which can become twisted during seat belt usage.
The suspect period began on August 31, 2022, when 2023 MY U.S. vehicle production began, and ended on September 18, 2025, when new retractors were introduced into vehicle production. The suspect period was determined using engineering change and vehicle production records.
Some 2023-2026 MY Alfa Romeo Tonale vehicles may have been built with rear outboard seat belts which can become twisted during seat belt usage.
The suspect period began on February 9, 2023, when 2023 MY U.S. vehicle production began, and ended on November 26, 2025, when new retractors were introduced into vehicle production. The suspect period was determined using engineering change and vehicle production records.
Similar vehicles not included in this recall were built after the suspect period.

Rear outboard seat belts that become twisted may not retract freely or maintain tension against the occupant.
Description of the safety risk, including crash, fire, death, injury:
Seat belts that do not freely retract or maintain tension do not provide the designed occupant restraint function, which can increase the risk of injury to occupants during certain types of crashes.

In April 2026, FCA US notified Stellantis Europe S.p.A (“Stellantis Europe”) of a potential issue related to rear seat belt retractor malfunction concerning 2023-2025 MY Dodge Hornet and 2023-2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale.
On May 4, 2026, Stellantis Europe opened an investigation related to 2023-2025 Dodge Hornet and 2023-2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale rear seat belt retractor malfunction.
From May 2026 to June 2026, Stellantis Europe Engineering reviewed information related to those claims and looked into the previous topics known in Europe.
On July 1, 2026, Stellantis Europe S.p.A organization recognized that the defect may occur on particular conditions due to a weakness in the design.
As of July 30, 2026, FCA US is aware of 0 customer assistance records, 484 warranty claims, 0 field reports, and no other service records potentially relating to this issue.
As of July 30, 2026, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets.
On July 30, 2026, Stellantis Europe determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, that a safety defect exists in certain vehicles.
