The blue paint caught my eye first. Then I noticed the bright red brake calipers. By the time I opened the door and saw the matching red interior, I was sold.
The Acura MDX Type S had me before I even pushed the start button. After spending time behind the wheel, I realized the things I liked best about it had nothing to do with the way it looked.
Acura Didn’t Save The Good Parts For The Top Trim

The flashy details might be what got me interested, but they aren’t the whole story. The more time I spent with the MDX, the more I realized the things I appreciated most had nothing to do with the trim level.
But even if you take all of that away, the MDX still works. The base trim has the same clean design and upscale feel as the Type S. It looks like what people think an Acura should look like. It’s polished and elegant without trying too hard to impress anyone.
It Makes Everyday Driving Better

The MDX never makes the drive difficult. There’s no hunting through menus trying to remember how something works, or getting annoyed by a feature that seems clever but makes no sense in real life. You just get in, adjust the seat, and drive.
That might not sound exciting, but it’s exactly what I want from a luxury SUV. The leather and technology are nice, but what matters most is how naturally everything works. The MDX fits into your life instead of expecting you to rearrange your habits around it.
It Doesn’t Wear You Out

The cabin stays quiet on the highway, rough pavement doesn’t beat you up, and conversations are easy without having to raise your voice to be heard in back. Even in traffic, the MDX has a way of taking the edge off.
After a long day, getting behind the wheel feels less like a chore and more like a chance to catch your breath before walking through the front door. It’s one of those things you don’t fully appreciate until you spend time in a vehicle that gets it wrong.
It Knows How To Have Fun

I don’t need a three-row SUV to scare me. I just want enough power to make me grin once in a while. Leave the MDX in its regular drive mode and it’s smooth, comfortable, and relaxed. Switch into Sport mode and it wakes up just enough to remind you that driving can still be fun.
Highway merges are effortless, back roads are entertaining, and the responses sharpen without sacrificing the comfort that makes the MDX so easy to live with. You don’t need outrageous horsepower to have fun. Sometimes, you just need enough to make you smile.
It’s Easy To Understand Why People Keep Buying Them

The 2026 Acura MDX starts at $51,800, while the Type S Advance is $75,850. That’s serious money, but the MDX feels worth it. It looks the way a luxury SUV should look, drives the way you’d hope it would drive, and delivers the kind of comfort that makes you appreciate it a little more every day. The Type S does the same thing, just with a bit more personality.
I started out thinking my favorite part of the MDX would be its eye-catching style. As it turns out, my favorite part was how easy it was to live with. It simply made everyday driving nicer, and that’s exactly what I want from a luxury SUV.
