The 2027 Toyota Prius adds dual-zone climate control and a new black paint choice while keeping its familiar hybrid and plug-in hybrid lineup. The regular Prius starts at $30,050 with Toyota’s $1,295 delivery charge included; the plug-in starts at $35,275 on the same basis.
Toyota announced both versions in July with summer dealership arrivals. Here is what changes for 2027, how the powertrains differ and what the trim prices mean for shoppers.
Cabin comfort and a new color lead the 2027 changes
Dual-zone climate control now lets the driver and front passenger choose separate temperatures in both Prius versions. Inked joins the exterior palette as the new black option. The Nightshade grades retain their distinctive Karashi color choice and black exterior details.
The regular hybrid comes in LE, XLE, Nightshade and Limited trims. An 8-inch multimedia screen is standard on the first three, while Limited includes a 12.3-inch screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The plug-in uses SE, XSE, Nightshade and XSE Premium names, with the largest screen standard on XSE Premium.
Hybrid powertrain, fuel economy and basic dimensions
The standard Prius combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motor-generators and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel-drive versions make 194 total system horsepower; all-wheel-drive versions make 196 hp and use a separate rear electric motor.
Toyota lists EPA-estimated combined fuel economy of 55 mpg for the LE with front-wheel drive and 53 mpg for the LE AWD. Those figures apply to those specific configurations, rather than every Prius trim.
The regular hybrid measures 181.1 inches long and 70.2 inches wide, with a 108.3-inch wheelbase. Toyota lists 43.2 inches of front legroom and 34.8 inches in the rear. The sloping hatchback shape gives the Prius a different packaging approach from a conventional sedan.
The plug-in adds electric commuting range and more power
The Prius Plug-in Hybrid produces 220 total system horsepower and carries a 13.6-kWh battery. EPA-estimated electric range is 44 miles for SE and 39 miles for XSE, Nightshade and XSE Premium. Once operating in hybrid mode, the SE carries a 51-mpg combined rating.
Toyota quotes roughly 11 hours for a full charge from a standard 120-volt outlet or about four hours using Level 2 charging under ideal conditions. It can also operate as a hybrid when plugging in is not possible. For buyers with convenient charging, the electric range could cover much of a daily commute; without regular charging, the less expensive standard hybrid deserves a close look.
2027 Prius prices with the delivery charge included
For the front-wheel-drive hybrid, delivered starting prices are $30,050 for LE, $33,495 for XLE, $34,300 for Nightshade and $37,065 for Limited. All-wheel drive adds $1,400 to each, putting LE AWD at $31,450 and Limited AWD at $38,465.
Delivered plug-in prices are $35,275 for SE, $38,525 for XSE, $39,295 for Nightshade and $41,970 for XSE Premium. Options, taxes and registration are additional. The plug-in’s starting premium over the regular hybrid is $5,225, so charging access and actual driving patterns matter when comparing ownership costs.
