The 2027 Toyota Corolla marks its 60th anniversary with a limited-run hybrid, but the regular gas sedan still starts below $25,000 including destination. The anniversary car gets distinctive details; the broader lineup keeps familiar gas and hybrid choices.

Here is what changes for 2027, what carries over and what Toyota has announced about pricing. The special edition’s price is still pending.

The anniversary model is a limited-run hybrid

Toyota will build 2,500 examples of the 60th Anniversary Special Edition for the U.S. Based on the Hybrid SE, it comes in Ice Cap or Supersonic Red and adds machined, black-finished 18-inch wheels, special badges, door sills and floor mats.

The commemorative car arrives in early 2027, after the regular lineup’s planned fall arrival. Toyota has not announced its price. Buyers interested mainly in fuel savings should compare it with the regular hybrids once the premium is known. Limited production alone does not establish better value or future collectibility.

The regular sedan and hatchback also gain Inked black paint for 2027. Toyota’s August 18 announcement describes an anniversary edition and equipment choices, not an all-new Corolla generation.

Gas and hybrid powertrains serve different priorities

Gas-powered LE, SE and XSE sedans use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated at 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Their Dynamic Shift CVT incorporates a physical launch gear. Toyota estimates 32 mpg city, 41 highway and 35 combined for the gas LE.

The hybrids pair a 1.8-liter engine with electric assistance for 138 combined horsepower. Their electronically controlled transmission uses a planetary gear system rather than the gas car’s belt-and-pulley arrangement. Manufacturer estimates reach 53 city, 46 highway and 50 combined for Hybrid LE FWD and Hybrid XLE; those figures should not be applied automatically to the anniversary edition.

AWD remains available on Hybrid LE and Hybrid SE. These are different buying decisions: the gas engine has the higher horsepower rating, while the hybrid prioritizes fuel use. A power number by itself does not tell you which will feel better on your commute.

Screen sizes and cabin equipment depend on the trim

The anniversary model includes black and red sport-fabric seat inserts and a 10.5-inch multimedia screen. That screen is also standard on XSE and Hybrid XLE and available on SE and Hybrid SE. Other versions start with an 8-inch display.

A 7-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, while XSE and Hybrid XLE get a 12.3-inch cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 are standard across the sedan range. Those assistance features still require an attentive driver.

The regular Corolla starts at $24,620 with destination

Toyota announced a $23,325 base price for the gas LE, plus $1,295 for processing and handling, bringing its starting total to $24,620 before taxes and options. Gas SE starts at $25,765 and XSE at $29,040 before that charge.

Hybrid LE starts at $25,175, Hybrid SE at $27,615 and Hybrid XLE at $29,540, also before destination. AWD adds $1,400 to Hybrid LE or Hybrid SE. The anniversary edition’s separate price remains unannounced.

At those announced prices, a front-drive Hybrid LE costs $1,850 more than the gas LE. Whether fuel savings recover that premium depends on your annual mileage, fuel prices and driving conditions. That is a more useful calculation for most commuters than paying extra simply for a special-edition badge.
