Ford Motor Company recently invited members of the media to Michigan International Speedway to test a lineup of their in-house-modified vehicles from the Ford Custom Garage program, one of which was the 2026 Ford Mustang FP800S. Based on the current Mustang GT, the FP800S package adds an array of upgrades that improve aerodynamics, handling and – most importantly – the power output. The result is a Mustang with over 800 horsepower that handles like a supercar while still maintaining a full factory warranty.

In order to let us push the Ford Mustang FS800S to its limits, the Motor Company laid out a road course through the infield of Michigan International Speedway. We started on pit row from a stop, allowing us to experience a hard launch, reaching speeds of nearly a hundred miles per hour before reaching the first hard left turn. Once we turned away from the oval, we began slicing our way through the road course, with a mix of tight and sweeping turns allowing the unique handling bits to work their magic while a couple short straights showcased how quickly this Mustang gets up to speed.

The FP800S package from the Ford Custom Garage program is built on the modern Mustang GT, so the heart of this package is the 5.0-liter “Coyote” V8. In stock form, the newest Mustang GT delivers 480 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque, but the most significant aspect of the FP800S package is the 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger. When coupled with a unique engine calibration, this package lifts the output to 800 horsepower and if you add the optional Borla exhaust system, you get 10 more horsepower for a total output of 810 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque.

As you might imagine, packing 810 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque into a Mustang GT that weighs under 3,900 pounds makes for one wicked-quick pony car. The FP800S blasts off from a dig and pulls even harder through the midrange, offering big power whenever you need it. Also, thanks to the Borla exhaust system, the soundtrack of this supercharged Mustang is a glorious warning of what is under the hood. The company hasn’t offered an official quarter mile time, but the combination of 810 horsepower, a curb weight under two tons and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires will surely put this Mustang into the deep 11-second range, if not the 10s in the right conditions.

Far More than a Drag Car

The new Ford Mustang FP800S is a monster in a straight line, but this package is not engineered to just be a drag car. As mentioned above, in addition to the engine upgrades, the FP800S package comes with Ford’s award-winning R1 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber. Those tires are among the best-handling, street-legal tires on the market, so they make a massive difference in terms of handling, but they are just the start of the handling improvements.

The FP800S package is available on new Ford Mustangs with the “fixed” suspension package or the high tech adaptive dampers. In both cases, the suspension system has been tuned to handle the extra weight up front and the extra power at the rear wheels, but the team has also lowered the car a bit and added the biggest adjustable sway bars that they have in their portfolio. The culmination of the unique suspension tuning, the bigger sway bars, the lowered stance and the sticky tires allow this Mustang to grip the corners like a supercar – making it one of the most nimble American performance that cars I’ve ever driven.

Finally, while not a part of the standard FP800S package, buyers can opt for an array of carbon fiber body bits, including a Dark Horse rear spoiler with a Gurney flap and a front splitter. There is also a set of Recaro seats, which bolster the race-readiness of this package.

An Absolute Thrill to Drive

While my seat time in the 2026 Ford Mustang FP800S was limited to a handful of laps around the Michigan International Speedway infield road course, I don’t have a single negative thing to say about the package. Although we weren’t launching on pit row like we would on an actual drag strip, even a soft launch made it clear that this car makes very good use of all of that extra power. I imagine that if I had just stomped the throttle from a stop, this Mustang would have roasted the rear tires, but on a moderate launch, there was no wheelspin on the low end. As you get into the midrange and the boost peaks, that is when the 5.0-liter V8 really flexes its muscles, leading to acceleration forces that are nothing short of intoxicating. Don’t get me wrong – it is certainly not a slouch from a dig – but the midrange is where the FP800S Mustang really feels best. At that point, the exhaust is screaming and so is the 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, and the combination of 800 horsepower with the symphony of a high-revving V8 makes hard pulls a true thing of beauty…but that is just the start of this package.

When we got off of pit row and into the curves of the road course, the Ford Mustang FP800S became even more impressive. The unique suspension features of this package keep the body very flat and stable under hard cornering, so it never feels like the body roll is going to pull the car to the outside of a turn. Because the car is so well balanced, when you come out of a turn and hammer down, the chassis has no issue putting that power to the ground, so the FP800S gets from turn to turn in a hurry. Also, even with the Mustang’s standard Brembo braking package, when you approach a tight corner at speed and stand on the brakes, they binders reply flawlessly turn after turn, lap after lap.

Much like the previous Shelby GT500, the Ford Mustang FP800S package provides performance characteristics that are more like a supercar and less like a muscle car or pony car – making it a ton of fun to drive in just about any situation.

Incredible Performance for the Price

The FP800S is part of the Ford Custom Garage program, which allows customers who are buying a new vehicle to add upgrades that essentially create an aftermarket-style build. The key difference here is that the buyer doesn’t need to know how to build a car, nor do they need to know what shop to trust with their build. They just order the FP800S package when they order their new Ford Mustang GT, and the parts come installed with a full warranty.

According to Ford’s notes, the lowest-priced 2026 Mustang GT that is applicable for the FP800S build has an MSRP of $46,800. The components of the FP800S package cost $18,500, so the cost of the car and the package components sits at $65,300. It should be noted that this price does not include labor or the cost of the Michelin tires. Those tires cost around $600 a piece, so the tires add another ~$2,500, bringing the price up to $67,800 before the cost of labor to install everything. That labor cost will vary based on dealership, but for the sake of discussion, let’s say that labor is $10,000. Frankly, I imagine that the install process is less than that, but it is a nice, even number for speculating the total cost of the package. With that labor number, the price to acquire a Ford Mustang FP800S is somewhere in the area of $77,000. That is in the same general price range as the previous Shelby GT500 which “only” had 760 horsepower and it is a few thousand less than the now-discontinued Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye at 797/807 horsepower.

In short, the Ford Mustang FP800S is an incredible performance value, offering a combination of power and handling that you simply can’t get from any other vehicle on the market for that kind of money.
