The redesigned 2025 Toyota Camry marked a major shift for America’s best-selling sedan. Toyota made significant changes including a hybrid-only powertrain, updated cabin technology and a completely redesigned exterior and interior. However, early Toyota Camry known problems are already emerging, including software glitches, hybrid-system warning messages and infotainment issues.

Looking at NHTSA.gov recalls, online forums, CarComplaints.com and Consumer Reports, we found there have been problems. Owners report hybrid system warnings, electrical glitches, infotainment concerns and software-related recalls.

While the Camry still appears more reliable than many competitors, buyers should be aware of the early issues owners are reporting.

Hybrid System Warnings and Electrical Complaints Are Appearing Early

One of the most discussed concerns involving the redesigned Camry centers around hybrid system warning messages and intermittent electrical behavior.

Some owners have reported:

  • “Hybrid System Malfunction” warnings
  • No-start conditions
  • Warning lights appearing suddenly
  • Electrical communication errors
  • Vehicle shutdown concerns
  • Battery-related warnings

In one owner report, a 2025 Camry owner said the vehicle shut down after roughly 140 miles of driving and displayed a “Hybrid System Malfunction” warning message while driving on the highway. The owner later said dealership diagnostics pointed toward fuel-system-related trouble codes.

Additional owner discussions describe intermittent software glitches and warning messages that sometimes disappear after restarting the vehicle.

While the total number of complaints remains relatively low so far, hybrid-system-related concerns have become one of the most closely watched topics surrounding the redesigned Camry.

Electrical and Infotainment Glitches Continue to Frustrate Owners

Like many newer vehicles relying heavily on software and digital interfaces, the redesigned Camry has also generated complaints involving infotainment systems and electronics.

Owners have reported:

  • Frozen infotainment screens
  • Bluetooth connection problems
  • Backup camera glitches
  • Random dashboard warning lights
  • Display lag
  • Sensor communication errors

Some consumer reviews also criticize the interior technology experience, with complaints involving buggy software behavior and occasional screen responsiveness problems.

Several owner forums discussing the redesigned Camry mention concerns over software reliability rather than mechanical failures. In many cases, owners say restarting the vehicle temporarily resolves the issue.

The growing number of software-related complaints reflects a broader industry trend as automakers continue adding increasingly complex digital systems to vehicles.

Early Drivability and eCVT Complaints

Although the redesigned Camry uses Toyota’s proven hybrid system and electronically controlled transmission setup, some owners have already started discussing drivability concerns.

Reported issues include:

  • Hesitation during acceleration
  • Unusual drivetrain noises
  • Jerky low-speed behavior
  • Squeaking or whining sounds
  • Rough transitions between regenerative braking and acceleration

At this point, there does not appear to be evidence of widespread transmission failures. Most complaints focus on refinement issues and unusual noises rather than catastrophic breakdowns.

Toyota’s hybrid powertrain still maintains a strong reputation for long-term durability compared with many competitors.

Toyota Has Already Issued Multiple Recalls for the Redesigned Camry

Despite being a newly redesigned vehicle, the 2025-2026 Toyota Camry has already been included in several recalls and safety campaigns.

Hybrid inverter recall, NHTSA 25V869: Certain 2025-2026 Camrys can have an improperly tightened bolt inside the hybrid inverter. It can loosen, cause a short circuit, trigger a loss of motive power and potentially cause thermal damage. Toyota included approximately 51,644 Camrys in the recall.

Blank instrument-panel recall, NHTSA 25V595: Certain 2025 Camrys with the 12.3-inch instrument cluster can display a blank screen at startup, hiding the speedometer, warning lights and other required information in this recall.

Rearview-camera recall, NHTSA 25V744: The campaign covers approximately 37,383 2025-2026 Camrys. The image may freeze or fail to appear during a backing event because of Parking Assist ECU software. NHTSA recall report.

There have also been several technical service bulletins, not recalls, but items for technicians to be aware of when a customer brings a Camry in for service.

False “Engine Oil Level Low” warning: Toyota issued a bulletin covering certain 2025 Camry Hybrids that may incorrectly display this warning. Toyota bulletin.

Front brake squeal while reversing: Toyota has a bulletin covering front-brake squealing on affected hybrid vehicles. Toyota bulletin.

Collapsed front-seat outer bolster: Toyota issued a bulletin for some 2025 Camrys with a collapsed outer seatback bolster. Toyota bulletin.

Cold-start misfire codes: Toyota documentation covers certain Camrys that may illuminate the check-engine light and store misfire codes following a cold-soak startup. Toyota bulletin.

Owners should regularly check their VIN through Toyota or NHTSA recall databases to confirm all recall repairs and software updates have been completed.

Is the Redesigned Camry Still a Safe Bet?

The redesigned Toyota Camry remains one of the most important sedans on sale today, especially as more buyers look for fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles without moving into EVs.

However, the growing number of early complaints involving software glitches, hybrid warnings and infotainment problems shows even Toyota is not immune from the industry’s increasing dependence on electronics and digital systems.

Whether these issues become long-term reliability concerns will likely depend on how Toyota handles software updates and future recalls as more owners put miles on the redesigned sedan.

Toyota’s decision to make the Camry hybrid-only also means buyers benefit from a powertrain design that has already been heavily tested across other Toyota hybrid models.

For many buyers, the redesigned Camry’s fuel economy, resale value and reputation for durability will likely continue outweighing the relatively small number of early complaints being reported.
