The 2027 Toyota Corolla Hatchback gets a technology update, with bigger available screens and a new SE Premium Package. Toyota also adds color choices and optional white wheels while retaining the 169-hp engine and continuously variable transmission.
The SE starts at $26,075 including Toyota’s $1,295 delivery charge, while the XSE starts at $29,170 on the same basis. The main shopping decision is whether the SE’s equipment meets your needs or the larger displays and extra comfort features justify stepping up.
Larger displays come standard on XSE and optional on SE
The entry SE receives a standard 7-inch digital instrument cluster and retains an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen. The new SE Premium Package combines a 12.3-inch instrument cluster with a 10.5-inch touchscreen, bringing the larger-display arrangement to the less expensive grade.
Both larger screens are standard on the XSE. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included across the lineup, so smartphone connectivity does not require moving to the higher trim.
Toyota also keeps Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert standard. The safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assistance, lane tracing assistance, road-sign recognition, automatic high beams and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. The model-year news centers on the displays and equipment choices, rather than a redesign of the car.
Powertrain, fuel economy and size
The Corolla Hatchback uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Both grades send power to the front wheels through Toyota’s Dynamic Shift CVT. Its physical launch gear handles initial acceleration before the transmission moves to its pulley system. Paddle shifters select among 10 preset ratios; this is not a conventional 10-speed automatic.
Toyota’s 2027 specifications list estimated fuel economy of 32 mpg city, 41 highway and 35 combined for the SE. The XSE is listed at 30 city, 38 highway and 33 combined. The larger wheels and added equipment therefore come with a lower published mileage estimate.
Size, cargo room and rear-seat space
The five-seat hatchback measures 172 inches long, 70.5 inches wide and 57.1 inches tall, with a 103.9-inch wheelbase. Toyota lists 17.8 cubic feet of cargo space and 29.9 inches of rear legroom. Those figures make rear-seat fit and luggage space worth checking in person if this will be your family’s main car.
Prices, colors and the SE-versus-XSE choice
Toyota’s model-year announcement lists the SE at $24,780 and XSE at $27,875 before the $1,295 delivery, processing and handling charge. The resulting $26,075 and $29,170 starting totals exclude taxes, options and dealer fees. That puts $3,095 between the grades before adding packages.
The XSE adds heated front seats with SofTex trim, an eight-way power driver’s seat, 18-inch wheels and LED fog lights, along with the larger screens. The SE uses fabric upholstery, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and 16-inch wheels. Buyers mainly interested in the screens should compare an SE Premium Package build with an XSE quote before deciding.
New paint choices include Inked and Blueprint, plus Blueprint with a black roof. Toyota also offers 18-inch gloss white accessory wheels. There is an extra cost to keep in mind on the SE: those accessory wheels require a separate purchase of 225/40R18 tires.
